Happy New Year! It's just about time to forget Christmas and the holidays and start the proper work of 2016 - our AGM will take place on 13th January and we're all looking forward to getting together to plan another year's work. But before we get into the real work, we'd like to take the opportunity to reflect on some of the great events that we held and contributed to in 2015.
Back in Spring around 120 people attended theWomen in the Law Dinner held in association with the United Kingdom Association of Women Judges and the Association of Women Solicitors. We raised £1500 for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. We also co-hosted a Survivor's Guide to Staying at the Bar with the Temple Women's Forum, featuring a speech from the Lord Chief Justice and a panel discussion with advice from senior and junior barristers. Finally, our annual Pupillage Application Clinic was well attended with many applicants receiving personalised advice on applications.
Over summer, we held our first drinks event of the year at Pepys bar, down by the river. It was a wonderful evening with students, judges, all types of lawyers, and experts in fields such as FGM in attendance.
Towards the end of the year we took part in the Annual Bar Conference co-hosting a panel concerning forced marriage with the Family Bar Association. Our panellists included Teertha Gupta QC, Mak Chishty, Commander for Engagement in the Met, and Polly Harrar of the Sharan Project who produced a lively discussion on the legal and practical problems faced in tackling forced marriage within England and Wales.
Our very last event was our Christmas Drinks back at the end of November. It was another great opportunity for old friends to get together and new connections to be made.
Now, it's time to get ready for 2016 and we should have some great events to announce to you soon.
